英語勉強4(pronounの意味を答えよ)

pronounの意味を答えよ。

A pronoun is a part of speech that is used in place of a noun or a noun phrase.

Pronouns are used to avoid repeating the same noun or noun phrase multiple times in a sentence or a paragraph.

Some common examples of pronouns include "he," "she," "they," "it," "you," "me," and "us."

For example

  1. She gave him the book. He thanked her for it. (In this sentence, "it" is a pronoun that replaces "the book.")
  2. They enjoyed the movie, but some of them found it too violent. (In this sentence, "them" is a pronoun that replaces the people who enjoyed the movie, and "it" is a pronoun that replaces the movie.)
  3. I am not sure if she is coming with us or if she has other plans. (In this sentence, "she" is a pronoun that replaces a previously mentioned female person.)

語源

The word "pronoun" comes from the combination of the Latin words "pro", meaning "in place of" or "on behalf of", and "nomen", meaning "name".

So "pronoun" literally means "in place of a name" or "on behalf of a name".

「pronoun」という言葉は、ラテン語で「~の代わりに」または「~を代表して」を意味する「pro」と、「名前」を意味する「nomen」を組み合わせた造語です。

したがって、「pronoun」は文字通り「名前の代わりに」または「名前の代わりに」を意味します。
